We know there will be moments when we’ll want to give up. We’ll miss family. Homesickness will creep in. We will certainly miss the comfort of living in a house.

We also know we’ll face challenges—adversity, disagreements, and the inevitable unexpected dramas, especially when the Land Cruiser or caravan decides to test our patience somewhere far from help, and my bush mechanic skills are tested.

There will be times when we’ll need to pause, breathe, and choose grace when we get on each other’s nerves. Who knows?

What we do know is this: we’re committed to being authentic, real, and adventurous overcomers.

After more than 36 years of marriage, life has taught us to lean into the grace found in Christ Jesus. Again and again, we’ve discovered that peace, harmony, joy—and even comebacks—are possible when setbacks and adversity try to overwhelm us.

Through it all, we hold onto this promise: He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Having an abundance mindset shapes how we travel. It helps us do things thoughtfully, make this journey memorable, and continue enriching our marriage along the way. As we go, we’re growing in confidence, competence, and strength—finding joy in simple daily rhythms and the freedom to explore Australia at our own pace.

For us, the Big Lap isn’t a holiday—it’s a lifestyle, that is, a slow, meaningful adventure. It’s long roads, crosswinds, tight servo entries, free camps under wide skies, off-grid living, and the occasional farm stay.

From time to time, we’ll also book a caravan park cabin or an Airbnb to reset and mix things up.

Yes, there will be caravan parks—and that one bloke standing nearby with folded arms, judging our reversing like it’s an Olympic event.

• And while we’re travelling full-time, we’re never far from home.

• When important moments call, we will fly back to Perth from wherever we are across Australia.

• Then again, we can always plan to return to Perth and arrange our trips to suit.

• This is life on the road—real, flexible, and taken one day at a time.
